The first aider should be capable of managing an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally. This involves:

  • Assessing the casualty’s level of consciousness to determine their responsiveness.
  • Understanding the importance of placing an unconscious casualty into the recovery position, which helps maintain an open airway and prevents obstruction or choking.
  • Opening the casualty’s airway and checking for breathing to ensure proper ventilation.
  • Safely positioning the unresponsive casualty in the recovery position to maintain their airway and prevent aspiration.
  • Managing a casualty who is experiencing a seizure by providing support, ensuring their safety, and monitoring the duration and characteristics of the seizure.
